Why I'm writing Exploring Visual Storytelling:

I’m writing Exploring Visual Storytelling (to be published by Thomson Delmar Learning in Summer 2006) with my colleague Brendan Eddy first and foremost because it represents our greatest passion—creating a culture of compelling Visual Storytellers. With nothing but an unwavering belief in our eventual success, Brendan and I spent three bleary-eyed months creating the prototype Visual Storytelling DVD—a product whose objective was to articulate the tools necessary to become a visual storyteller. Exploring Visual Storytelling is Thomson’s way of sharing our vision by creating the first “T-DVD”—a Textbook-DVD companion wherein the textbook explains in clear and direct language the many complex principles involved in telling a good story and the DVD provides well-defined and fully animated corresponding sequences to supplement and enrich understanding. —Brian Arnold
