Jonathan
is the president and co-founder of Amethyst Research LLC,
an interactive design and engineering firm that specializes
in the development of interactive device simulations for training
and promotional presentations, particularly, but not limited
to, the medical device industry. Jonathan is a computer-programming
expert with experience in developing software programs for
performance-based training and biomedical visualization. He
teaches audiences at various skill levels, and he speaks at
Flash, simulation, and e-Learning conferences. His academic
and technical articles have appeared in several major journals
and magazines, and he has recently published popular tutorials
and articles on Macromedia's Flash DevNet Center. Jonathan
received his PhD in Computer Science in 1996 from the University

Behind
MX for Interactive Simulation:
In spite
of the big "Flash MX" on the cover, I describe
our book as "a methodology book disguised as an advanced
Flash book." Its purpose is to teach good, solid software
design methodologies for designing and developing interactive,
simulation-based e-Learning. Too often, the availability
of a technology such as Flash overshadows the main reason
we do something, namely to achieve some measurable objectives.
In e-Learning and simulation, we see the current landscape
as touting product simulations like "flight simulators
on the desktop." When the mindset is on creating high-fidelity
simulators, and less on how one designs programs to achieve
performance improvement using simulations, we will never
effectively use technology to its potential. The book emphasizes
that good e-Learning is about good instruction, not good
simulation. - Jonathan Kaye
